Paweł Adamowicz, the Mayor Born in Gdańsk on 2 November 1965. A lawyer by education, he graduated from the University of Gdańsk. His wife Magdalena, who comes from Słupsk, is a lawyer too. They have a daughter. In May 1988 he co-organised a sit-down strike at the University of Gdańsk and became a chairman of the students' strike committee. Between 1990 and 1993 he held the office of the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs at the University of Gdańsk.

In 1990 he was elected a councillor of Gdańsk. In the subsequent term of office (1994-1998) he chaired the Gdańsk City Council. From 1998 to 2002 Mr Adamowicz held the office of the Mayor of Gdańsk, and on 10 November 2002 he was re-appointed for this post, this time in direct elections. He won 72% of the votes cast in the second round. In 2006 the residents yet again entrusted the mandate of the City Mayor to Mr. Adamowicz. This time he came clear in the first electoral round, with 96485 votes (60.87%). He represents the Civic Platform and is an active member of the Kashubian-Pomeranian Union.
Mr Adamowicz has been recognised by the Holy Father with a top distinction available to a lay person - the Golden Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice Cross. The Polish President, Aleksander Kwaśniewski, awarded him with the Silver Cross of Merit in 2003.

Visiting hours:

The Mayor receives visitors on each first Wednesday of the month, upon a previously produced record. The records are taken in room 20 (ground floor).
